Join boudoir and portrait photographer Annie Minicuci for a small-group workshop exploring lighting, body positioning and mild prop/attire work for tattoo photography that tells a story. Tattooers are often skilled at taking photos that show off their technical prowess, but this workshop will aim to broaden our repertoire to include evocative, interesting photos that bring context to our work.
This workshop is limited to 15 spots and will include a 60-90 minute lecture/demonstration with Annie and a live model, as well as breakout time for each attendee to practice with Annie and the model. Annie is a trauma informed and fat-positive photographer who is well versed in how to set clients at ease. Her workshop will include coaching on how to position and direct your client, tips on making a tattoo photo studio accessible for all bodies, how to use lighting to accentuate the mood of a piece, and how to use movement to complement the vibe and aesthetic of your tattoos. We will also touch on wardrobe options and mild prop work that can be accomplished within a tattoo studio setting, as well as fun, easy additions you can make to your process to make it fun for your client.
This is not an in-depth dive into camera settings and technical photography— composition, lighting and posing take center stage and this workshop is open to all photography levels! Bring whatever camera you’d like: smartphone, dslr, or otherwise.
Overall, this should be a fun, informative workshop where we can learn new ways to show off the work we do every day! Tattoo artists are incredibly reliant on good photography to document and market the work that we do, and expanding our capabilities behind the camera will help set our work apart. We are so excited to host Annie at Ravensgate and look forward to joining you all on July 21st!
